Choose it for the books you read
Clara BW makes most sense when your reading is mainly text: novels, biographies or a chapter on the train. Its small screen and light body are practical reasons to choose it over a larger tablet, especially when bag space matters.
The linked black 16GB unit is the monochrome Clara BW. It is not Clara Colour or the older Clara 2E. Amazon’s summary table incorrectly lists 800 × 600; Kobo specifies 1448 × 1072.
Set the light for your room
ComfortLight PRO lets you adjust brightness and warmth, while dark mode offers another reading preference. Start with a comfortable font size rather than squeezing more words onto each page. The touchscreen handles page turns; there are no dedicated page buttons.
The evening illustration suggests a reading routine, not a measured benefit to sleep or eyesight. We have not tested the screen, response speed or long-session comfort.
Check your library before switching
Look at where your existing books come from. Unprotected EPUB and PDF files can be copied from a computer, but a supported file extension does not remove purchase restrictions. Confirm the DRM and borrowing process for your particular shop or library.
Kobo’s built-in OverDrive/Libby country list excludes Germany. Do not assume an Amazon.de purchase enables it locally. Audiobook playback is for supported Kobo Audiobooks through separate Bluetooth headphones or a speaker.
Plan for charging and travel
The advertised 53 days assumes just half an hour of daily reading, low light and wireless connections off. Longer sessions and listening change that calculation. Download your next books before travelling and keep a compatible USB charging cable handy.
Water resistance adds reassurance, but it is not protection against every spill or beach condition. Dry the USB port before charging, and use a separate cover to protect the screen in a bag.
Know when a larger screen helps
A six-inch page is a useful tradeoff for portability. Fixed-layout PDFs, detailed diagrams and comics can require more zooming than on a larger device. Choose around your usual material, not simply the number of books the storage might hold.
Clara BW does not support Kobo Stylus or integrated cloud drives. If handwritten notes or colour illustrations are central to your reading, compare another model before committing to this simpler format.
