ADAM Audio T5V: build a small listening workspace

T5V is sold here as one speaker. A normal stereo desk needs two, with an audio signal and mains power reaching each cabinet. Add the second unit, suitable cables and any stands when working out the complete cost.

Built-in amplification removes the need for a separate speaker amplifier. It does not remove the need for a suitable source or an accessible way to control listening volume.

Place the pair symmetrically, with tweeters directed toward your seated listening position. The manufacturer recommends clearance from nearby walls and an approximately equilateral triangle between the speakers and listener. Start with placement before adjusting tone controls.

Desk reflections and room boundaries can change what you hear. Pads or stands can help with positioning, but neither a product label nor a small switch can make every untreated room acoustically neutral.

The XLR connection accepts a balanced analogue signal; RCA provides an unbalanced alternative. An audio interface with a convenient monitor-volume control can suit computer work. The rear input switch selects the relevant connection.

This speaker does not accept a USB cable directly from a laptop and has no built-in Bluetooth receiver. Check adapters and signal levels as a complete route, especially if your current equipment only provides digital outputs.

Separate high- and low-frequency switches offer modest adjustments. Begin at neutral, use familiar recordings and change one setting at a time. Large room problems are a reason to reconsider placement or treatment, not simply add more bass.

The 45Hz lower figure is measured at −6dB. It does not mean deep bass stays equally loud down to that point. A subwoofer may suit some work, but adds its own placement and integration needs.

A pair can make sense for music production, podcast editing and close listening where a stable desk layout is possible. For casual listening from across a room, simpler speakers with direct digital inputs may be more convenient.

We have not measured this speaker or evaluated mixes through it. Published power and sound-pressure figures are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish how loud you should listen or guarantee better finished work.
