The T7 Shield makes sense when your files travel between offices, shoots and outdoor locations. Its rubberised body carries an IP65 rating; the much thinner My Passport SSD fits more easily beside a laptop. Neither rating nor a drop claim makes deliberate exposure sensible, and the warranties do not promise recovery of lost files.

Both claim the same 1,050MB/s read ceiling, so this is not a simple speed upgrade in either direction. A USB-C socket alone does not establish its bandwidth. Older ports, hubs, small files and sustained writes can reduce transfer rates. Confirm the computer specification and connect directly when assessing a demanding workflow.

Both offer hardware encryption with password support through compatible manufacturer software. Check that software on every computer you intend to use before enabling it. Store the password safely and separately: encryption protects access, but forgetting the password can leave your own files inaccessible.
